What it’s about: In 2013, Mikko Tuomi of the University Of Hertfordshire discovered a planet orbiting Proxima Centauri, the star nearest to our sun. Further examination showed the planet to be in the “Goldilocks zone”—neither too hot nor too cold for water to exist as a liquid. As both NASA and Elon Musk set their sights on Mars, could Proxima b be the first planet humanity visits outside our solar system? And could it happen in our lifetime?
