TV Club: The Man In The High Castle hits the reset button

The fifth episode of a series is a little early for a reboot, but in many ways The Man In The High Castle feels like it’s starting over. The first four episodes largely set in Canon City formed a neo-Western mini-arc that had run its course by the time Joe and Juliana outwitted the Marshal, but as the title of this episode indicates (and as is reinforced to the point of absurdity in dialogue throughout “The New Normal”), we now find the duo separated, each back in their own world. That these worlds will never be the same, largely based on the actions Joe and Juliana have taken, is the theme hammered home over and over in this hour.

Again we begin in the immediate aftermath of the previous episode, with Frank being spotted holding a gun at the rally immediately after the crown prince has been shot. As …
