Newswire: The Battlestar Galactica movie keeps on trucking through space

It’s been a few years since we wrote about the long-gestating Battlestar Galactica movie, reportedly based on the original ideas for the sci-fi franchise—i.e., robot-loathing Mormons getting chased through space—but with no direct relationship to either the 1978 original series, or its critically beloved mid-2000s reimagining. Last time we checked in, Bryan Singer had just departed the project, leaving Transcendence screenwriter Jack Paglen to fill in all the movie’s “So say we alls” by his so say himself.

But as Battlestar Galactica taught us, time is cyclical, and so Paglen eventually departed the project as well. He’s now been replaced by Lisa Joy, a writer and executive producer on HBO’s Westworld, another attempt at dragging the cultural artifacts of the 1970s into the modern day.
