Newswire: Stargate’s back, baby!
After a feature film, books, three separate TV series, and a pair of direct-to-DVD movies, we finally thought we’d seen the last of the multi-limbed, quasi-unkillable Stargate franchise. But, obviously, we were idiots, because as long as there exist stars, and the gates what travel them, Stargate will always survive.
That’s the takeaway from today’s Comic-Con, where MGM announced that it’ll soon be reviving the Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin-devised franchise in the form of a 10-episode digital series. Stargate Origins will center on Catherine Langford, the woman who initially recruits James Spader to investigate the titular structure in Emmerich’s 1994 film. (Langford’s character was fleshed out thoroughly in the Stargate SG-1 universe, although, from the teaser trailer MGM released today, it doesn’t look like much of that material will make it into this latest trip back “to where it all began.”)
