Newswire: Showtime renews Homeland for 2 more years, bumps upcoming season to 2017

Showtime just renewed Homeland back in December, but apparently the show has some spies embedded in high-profile positions within the premium cable network, because now it has picked up the series for another two seasons on top of the one it already picked up. However, that season—Homeland‘s sixth—has now been bumped from a fall premiere to January 2017. This comes from Deadline, which says that the seventh season of William H. Macy’s Shameless will premiere in Homeland‘s place on October 7.

After a few seasons abroad, Homeland will return to America this year with Claire Danes’ Carrie Mathison living in Brooklyn and “working at a foundation whose efforts are to provide aid to Muslims living in the United States.” Apparently, the season will “mirror reality” and revolve around a presidential election, and it will all take place in the couple of months between election day …
