Newswire: Project Almanac director morphs into Power Rangers director

In news that a small group of extremely dedicated fans will feel very strongly about, Lionsgate has announced that Dean Israelite will direct its Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie. Israelite doesn’t have much feature film experience, but he was the guy behind Project Almanacthe teen-friendly time travel movie from earlier this year. Variety says Israelite’s pitch to get the movie was impressive enough for Lionsgate to give him the job “fairly quickly,” though we’d figure his relative inexperience also makes him pretty cheap. Various Power Rangers shows have been on for decades, but the brand still doesn’t have the weight of a Transformers or Ninja Turtles.
