Newswire: Kanye West announces video game about his dead mom flying into heaven
Kanye West’s “Only One” might be the sweetest song in the rapper’s often-profane and sex-filled oeuvre. An attempt to put his feelings about the 2007 death of his mother, Donda, into music, the song mixes gospel organs with West’s earnest desire to hear from his mother again, and ends with him imagining her telling him to tell his daughter, North, about her. It’s touching, and sincere.
So, obviously, West is turning it into a video game.
West made the announcement at his heavily promoted Yeezy Season 3 event at Madison Square Garden today, where he also streamed the entirety of his new album, The Life Of Pablo. And then, as 20 million people watched the event stream on Tidal, West debuted a short trailer for the game, in which players apparently guide West’s dead mother to the gates of heaven.
