Newswire: Comedy Central may have tried to get Amy Poehler, Louis C.K., and Amy Schumer for The Daily Show

Now that news of Trevor Noah’s ascent to The Daily Show throne has been made official, it’s time to immediately turn our attention to what could have been. According to Grantland editor-in-chief Bill Simmons, Comedy Central pursued three “big-ass names” for the coveted gig before settling on Noah: Amy Poehler, Louis C.K., and Amy Schumer.

Simmons followed his assertion with another tweet in which he said he didn’t think “Poehler or CK was realistic, but had CC caught Schumer a year earlier – very realistic. Now she knows she can make movies.” No word from Poehler or C.K. on any of this speculation, but given that she’s already spent time as a satirical news show …
