1. The Stone Roses, The Stone Roses (“Waterfall” and “Don’t Stop”)

It’s not super obvious that two songs from The Stone Roses’ classic 1989 self-titled debut, “Waterfall” and “Don’t Stop,” are related. It’s tough to put a finger on it until you realize that “Don’t Stop” is actually most of “Waterfall” run backwards, with new lyrics on top—once you realize it, you can’t un-hear it. It wasn’t the only time The Stone Roses re-used a song by running it backwards and giving it a new title: “Made Of Stone” begat “Guernica.” “Where Angels Play” birthed “Simone.” “Elephant Stone” became “Full Fathom Five.” The magic of YouTube features many of the reversed songs reversed again, for comparison purposes.
