Interview: 4 best-selling YA authors on sex, sci-fi, and what it means to write for young women

Young adult books are hot right now, and not just with actual young adults. A 2015 Nielsen study showed that while adult book sales are down, children’s and young adult book sales are actually up. Over 30,000 YA books are published each year, amounting to a nice chunk of change, with the American Association Of Book Publishers estimating that YA material accounted for $1.9 billion in revenue in 2014. Pushing things even further, Forbes estimates that, collectively, YA authors brought down about $83 million in 2015 with a staggering $51 million of that total going to just two authors: The Fault In Our Stars author John Green and Divergent series creator Veronica Roth.
