How To Do Shit: We replicate the “tiny planet effect” from Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble”

Today marks the 200th anniversary of the invention of the bicycle, and The A.V. Club decided to ride around the city of Chicago, paying tribute to the coolest use of a bicycle in recent memory: the “tiny planet effect” from the video for Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble.”

The effect is easy enough to pull off—if you have the money, of course. To start, you’ll need a 360-degree camera (we used this one), a selfie stick, a clamp, and a bicycle. After you have the footage, you’ll need to stitch it together with software, which often comes with many 360-degree cameras. If the camera you pick up doesn’t, you can use professional-grade (read: expensive) compositing or editing software like After Effects, but it’s far simpler to buy cheap 360-video editing software like Insta360.
