Great Job, Internet!: This Postal Service parody album will vastly improve your holiday season
Turn-of-the-millennium indie synth act the Postal Service never released a Christmas album—the group only released one album, period—but if it had, it would probably sound a lot like Gift Up. Gift Up is the work of Los Angeles-based comedy troupe Local Business, and is a reimagining of Give Up—the Postal Service’s classic 2003 album—as a Christmas album.
The reason Gift Up works, and is so funny, is because Local Business really nails its imitation of the Postal Service. Someone clearly spent hours and hours trying to get Postal Service frontman Ben Gibbard’s slightly whiny delivery down pat. You could probably put on “Such Great Flights”—the reindeer-themed version of the Postal Service’s big hit “Such Great Heights”—at any retro ’00s night and no one would know the difference. (Also, the fact they have retro ’00s nights now is kind of depressing.)
