Great Job, Internet!: Read This: An oral history of Space Jam(’s incredible website)

Say what you will about the quality of Space Jam the movie, but it’s hard to deny the quality of Space Jam the website. While nearly 20 years later the design might seem garish and outdated, the mere fact that it’s still standing is impressive in its own right. (Never mind the fact that it’s sporting pre-Buzzfeed online quizzes and a 360-degree photo tour of the “Jordan Dome”.)

So it’s not entirely unsurprising that Rolling Stone has posted an oral history that goes maybe a little bit too in-depth on the creation of a website for a children’s movie. That said, the article is pretty fascinating. The site’s three creators (who were the entirety of the Warner Bros. internet marketing team) are interviewed, and it’s interesting to hear how little studio execs seemed to care about the then-burgeoning world of movie websites.
