Coming Distractions: Trailer for Turbo Kid revels in dystopian future of 1997

Fresh off the heels of its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, a trailer has been released for post-apocalyptic throwback Turbo Kid. The film is actually an adaptation of/expansion on a short film (“T Is For Turbo”) that was submitted for the first ABCs Of Death anthology. The producer of that film, Ant Timpson, along with fellow nostalgia enthusiast, Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun), have produced this remake which was directed by the original’s team of RKSS—that is, Anouk Whissell, François Simard, and Yoann-Karl Whissell.

The film’s retro-futuristic look is reminiscent of the various Italian knockoffs that came out in the ’80s following the success of Mad Max—films like 1990: The Bronx Warriors, 2019: After The Fall Of New York, Warriors Of The Wasteland, etc., where shoulder pads, spikes, and bizarre, appliance-based weaponry are the height of fashion.
