Coming Distractions: Queen Of Earth trailer pays tribute to ’70s psychodramas

The official full-length trailer has been released for Queen Of Earth, Alex Ross Perry’s highly anticipated psychological thriller starring Mad Men‘s Elisabeth Moss and Inherent Vice‘s Katherine Waterston. With its steady, suspenseful narration and throwback style, the trailer pays significant tribute to old-school trailers for psychological thrillers in the 1970s and 80s, and even earlier works like Ingmar Bergman’s Persona, to which Queen Of Earth bears some resemblance. The intimate camerawork also imitates psychodramas of the past: There’s even a canted-angle close-up of Moss’s face, 30 seconds into the trailer.

Moss and Waterston play childhood friends who spend a week together at a secluded lake house.
